Who we are

 

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children’s and young people.

 

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

The position holder will be responsible for facilitating and encouraging active participation and networking between individuals and community in recognizing problems, identifying solution and implementing project activities related to identifying solution. Establishes and maintains close working relationships with communities and civil society organizations in the working area.

Your role? 

While working with us, you will be in charge of the following,

 

Priority Task and Responsibilities   

 

  • Conduct sensitization of the project objectives and results to concerned kebele, community leaders, beneficiaries and other relevant stakeholders. 
  • Mobilize different CBOs at community level to address Street children protection mechanism  

 

  • Establish and support CC and CCC’s groups/structures at community level for smooth project implementation 

 

  •  Ensure equal participation and benefit of boys and girls-including children with disabilities in all phases of project implementation 

 

  •  Facilitate the necessary field work to carry out beneficiary selection in collaboration with city administration Govt office, woreda and kebele. 

 

  • Support and facilitate joint implementation plan of the project with relevant government stakeholders 

 

  • Facilitate project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project at woreda and community level. 

 

  • Participate in the assessment and surveys in partnership with stakeholders 

 

  • Facilitates effective participation of children, families, communities and stakeholders in project activities 

 

  • Facilitate and follow up different material distribution at community level 
  • Monitor and follow up Community conversation sessions as well as peer to peer dialogs at community level 

 

  • Organize different training, workshops and meeting at community level 

 

  • Facilitate different field visits programs 

 

  • Facilitate different review meetings at community level 

 

  • Follow up and support school clubs at community level 

 

  • Provide regular technical support to partners and beneficiaries at woreda and community level 

 

  • Collect data from beneficiaries that will be used as an input for case stories and for other documentation purposes 

 

  • Collect and compile monthly report from Change agents, peer-to-peer groups and youth groups 

 

  • Provide any project updates on a regular basis
  • Report training /workshop activity as well as distribution of materials 

 

Safeguarding (child, young people, adult & asset) and gender equality

  • Responsible for taking part in awareness raising sessions and capacity building trainings in relation to Child and Youth safeguarding, Adult Safeguarding and Asset Safeguarding.
  • Responsible for reporting any safeguarding suspicion, concern, allegation, or incident immediately, following the safeguarding reporting procedures. Safeguarding reports should be made to the safeguarding team at the program level and/or to the respective line manager.
  • Responsible for ensuring behaviours and all relationships are based on safeguarding and in line with the Code of Conduct and adhering to it in every situation.
  • Conduct themselves per the Code of Conduct, Safeguarding, and Local/Country Policies and

 

Job Requirements

 

- BA degree in Social Science, Social work, Sociology, Psychology and other related fields  
- Experience, A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in the community, voluntary, science engagement or a related sector, proven experience of coordinating project work

- Ability to build good working relationships with internal colleagues, external partners & stakeholders 
- Knowledge of community mobilization and participation in the development project 
- Good organizational and time management skills 
- Clear communication skills 
- Resilience – adaptable with the ability to remain calm and effective when working on fast-moving, high-pressure projects 
- Experience of Microsoft Office applications. 
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation, and coaching/mentoring. 
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office and other computer applications 
- Excellent command of written and spoken English 
- Good command of the local language 
- Prior INGO Experience is an asset
