SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Villages Somalia Association is affiliated. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in 134 countries worldwide. We are committed to the welfare of children – often throughout the whole of their childhood, and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and social neglect. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. SOS Children’s Villages upholds child protection policy and our selection processes reflect our commitment to the protection of children and youth from abuse. Banadir Region (Heliwa, Wadajir, Dharkenley and Dayninle districts) southwest-state ((Baidoa, BurHakaba, Berdale,Qasaxdhere,Hudur, Diinsoor, Baraawe and El Barde) and Hirshabelle State (Jowhar, Adale & Balcad).

Job Title: Eco-Champion’s Youth Mentors (5 Positions)

Location: Mogadishu-Somalia

Duration: Temporary period of four (4) Months

Report to: Eco-Champions Project Coordinator.

Job Summary:

We are seeking passionate and experienced mentors to support and guide youth-led initiatives focused on critical global issues such as Climate change, gender equality, renewable energy, sustainable farming, and leadership development. If you have expertise in one or more of the following areas and are committed to empowering the next generation of environmental activists.

Key Responsibilities:

• Under the management of the Eco-Champion Project Coordinator, plan and organize the implementation of the mentorship activities in line with the budget.
• Cultural Competency: Provide mentorship to young leaders from similar cultural backgrounds, ensuring a deep understanding of their cultural context, including local linguistic, religious, and ethnic factors.
• Contribution to Eco Champions Youth Initiatives: Actively contribute to the implementation and success of Eco Champions youth initiatives by providing practical insights, strategic guidance, and encouragement to help young people execute their projects.
• Expertise and Experience: Offer specialized guidance and knowledge in areas such as:
• Climate Change
• Gender Equality
• Renewable and Clean Energy
• Sustainable Lifestyles
• Sustainable / SMART Farming
• Project Management
• Public Speaking / Pitching
• Budgeting Skills and Personal Finances
• Leadership Development
• Self-confidence Building
• Networking and Personal Branding
• Motivation and Commitment: Engage fully in the mentoring process, committing to at least 3 sessions (60 minutes each). We recommend a commitment of 4–6 sessions to provide continued support.
• Actively engage young people, particularly young women, as agents of change in forums discussing climate change.
• Equip youth with skills and opportunities for climate action and personal growth.
• Build awareness and resilience for a just transition to stable ecosystems and equity.
• Foster a supportive community for learning and mentorship, focusing on women and girls.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental study, climate change, or expertise in one or more of the specified areas.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area, such as youth empowerment, guidance and counselling, social sciences, community development, and social work.
• Minimum of 1–3 years of relevant work experience in youth programmes, guidance and counselling, entrepreneurship skills programmes, and social business management.
• Experience in implementing youth programmes at a managerial level.
• Excellent command of the main working local language as well as the general country language, including both written and verbal communication.
• Awareness and understanding of social development issues, including local and national youth development priorities, Somalia’s key climate change milestones such as the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
• Excellent counselling skills.
• Good leadership skills.
• Good reporting skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
