SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in 134 countries worldwide. We are committed to the welfare of children – often throughout the whole of their childhood, and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and social neglect. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. Position:                      Health Science Lecturer

Job summary:

Demonstrate and teach patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students. Includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of both teaching and research. Also, the employee should prepare and deliver lectures to nursing students on topics related to nursing studies.

Job responsibilities:

• Deliver assigned health sciences courses, including Medical-Surgical Nursing, Midwifery, Community Health, Pharmacology, and related subjects.
• Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, and clinical/practical teaching.
• Monitor student attendance and maintain accurate academic records.
• Supervise students during classroom, laboratory, clinical, internship, and field activities.
• Assess students’ academic, clinical, and practical performance.
• Prepare, administer, mark, and grade examinations, assignments, and practical assessments.
• Provide timely feedback and academic support to improve student performance.
• Prepare and update syllabi, lesson plans, course materials, and teaching resources.
• Promote active learning, classroom participation, and professional conduct.
• Advise and mentor students on academic, clinical, research, and career matters.
• Maintain scheduled office hours for student consultation and support.
• Supervise student research projects, internships, clinical placements, and practical work.
• Demonstrate evidence-based clinical practice and appropriate patient-care skills.
• Participate in curriculum development, review, and quality improvement.
• Conduct and contribute to research, including proposal development, data collection, analysis, manuscript preparation, and publication.
• Keep up to date with developments in health sciences education, clinical practice, and research.
• Collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues on teaching, research, and student support.
• Participate in student orientation, registration, recruitment, and placement activities when required.
• Serve on departmental, faculty, academic, or research committees as assigned.
• Support student organizations and other academic activities.
• Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, leadership, and effective communication.
• Participate in professional development and capacity-building activities.
• Perform other duties reasonably assigned within the scope of the position.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in nursing, midwifery, Public Health, or a related health sciences field, with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Midwifery.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of teaching experience in health sciences at a university or recognized tertiary education institution.
• Demonstrated satisfactory performance, professionalism, and a positive work attitude.
• Medical education or training of trainers or facilitators (ToT/ToF) certification is an added advantage.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Competence in basic computer applications and digital teaching tools.
